Devil's Bowl Top Ten for Reutzel Highlights WoO Triple
Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (April 28, 2016) – A run through the field to capture a top-ten finish in Saturday night’s World of Outlaws main event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was the high mark for Aaron Reutzel and the Shark-powered Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car team in three events over the past week.
The week of action also included the first half of the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday and then the World of Outlaws return to Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway on Tuesday night.
Reutzel and the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions team look for some strong runs as the schedule calls for three more World of Outlaws events at Salina, OK, on Friday, Pevely, MO, on Saturday and then Jacksonville, IL, next Wednesday before Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action resumes on Thursday, May 5, at Kansas City’s Lakeside Speedway.
Reutzel began the stretch of World of Outlaws action in the Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine at last Friday and Saturday’s Texas Outlaw Nationals at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX.
It was an event that was threatened by heavy rains earlier in the week. “They did a great job of getting it in, the track was really as good as it can be,” Reutzel said of the ½-mile Devil’s Bowl clay oval.
But Devil’s Bowl luck continues to elude Reutzel.
“For some reason, the track just hasn’t been kind to me lately,” Reutzel says.
Friday began with a qualifying effort of 20th. “We didn’t qualify well, and once those two laps are done it sets the tone for the whole night.”
Reutzel was still making the most of it in the Wright Way Logistics/Walker Performance Filtration machine, flirting with a top-ten finish before mechanical issues cut the night short.
“We were hanging around 12th or so and broke a nozzle line,” Reutzel said of the race-ending culprit.
Saturday began with another qualifying effort that put Reutzel deep in the field. Reutzel rebounded though by racing from the 19th starting position to capture tenth at the checkered flag.
“We got going in the ‘A’,” Reutzel commented. “We kind of maintained. We had a decent car, stayed out of wrecks and moved up some.”
Hopes were high as Reutzel and crew rolled into Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway on Tuesday night, a track where Reutzel has enjoyed success in recent years.
A qualifying effort of tenth was in improvement, but still left work to do.
“I wish I would have got a little better lap in qualifying,” Reutzel says. “With these guys, tenth doesn’t do you much good.”
Reutzel showed good speed early in the race, but guessing wrong on the track proved costly.
“I thought it would blow off, I figured it would be gone so we tightened up for the end,” Reutzel explained of the strategy.
The track didn’t blow off as expected though, with the bottom side getting better as the race progressed and leaving Reutzel in trouble.
“We were good early when it was still greasy on the bottom, we were up to sixth at one point,” Reutzel recalls. “The bottom came in and I was too tight to get down there.”
Struggling on the top side, Reutzel tried the middle and looped it. “I had to give it a try but we just didn’t have anything for it so I pulled off.”
Weather permitting, Reutzel is gearing up for more World of Outlaws action at Salina, Pevely and Jacksonville.
“We’ve had a little bit of a rough go of it these last few races, hopefully we can turn that around,” Reutzel wraps up.
