Reutzel Races to Another Pair of Podiums!

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (May 27, 2014) – With a busy slate of ASCS National action looming over the next several weekends, Aaron Reutzel rides in with some momentum after racing to another pair of podium finishes in ASCS Gulf South action this past weekend.

Reutzel took in a pair of ASCS Gulf South nights in south Texas thanks to some added help from Gulf Coast Ford, racing from the tenth starting position on both nights aboard the Stafford Performance-powered Bob and Christie Miller’s Car Parts Machine/Wren Motorsports No. 87 Triple-X to finishes of second at Paige’s Cotton Bowl Speedway and then third at Goliad’s Shady Oak Speedway.

And Reutzel gained 15 feature positions over the course of two nights with an ill-handling machine. “Both nights, the car just never felt good,” Reutzel commented.

On both nights, Reutzel narrowly missed the redraw after racing from third to second in his Friday heat race and then starting and finishing second in Saturday’s heat.

Starting tenth on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway, Reutzel wrestled his way forward in the Momentum Racing Suspensions/Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine.

“The track was fast and up against the fence,” Reutzel described of the Cotton Bowl Speedway. “I had a horrible push in the center of the corner, I debated pulling off.”

Reutzel persisted though and worked his way up to the runner-up position by the time the checkered flag flew for his 13th top-five of the year and 11th in the last 13 outings.

It was more of the same on Saturday night at Shady Oaks Speedway with Reutzel once again starting tenth in the Lone Star Hydro Maintenance/BC Fundz/Wright Way Logistics entry.

“The car was better but still tight in the center,” Reutzel explained.

Running sixth much of the way, Reutzel made some late moves to snare third for his 19th top-ten finish of the year and 16th top-ten in his last 18 feature starts.

With three unexpected Regional weekends of racing in the books, Reutzel is ready to get back to business with Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action.

“We’re back to the races that count,” Reutzel said of this weekend’s double that includes Salina Speedway in Kansas on Friday night and then Nebraska’s Eagle Raceway on Saturday.

Working his way up the National point charts to sixth, just 57 points out of the lead, Reutzel ranks as the only driver to post multiple ASCS National wins thus far in 2014 after victories at Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway on April 12 and then Outlaw Motor Speedway near Muskogee, OK, on May 2.

Reutzel looks to add more when the green flag drops this weekend.

2014 Quick Stats: 25 races, 5 wins, 14 top-fives, 19 top-tens, 4 heat race wins, 3 “B” Main wins.

Up Next: Lucas Oil ASCS National action on Friday at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS, and then on Saturday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, NE.
